Starboard UK Supporting Surfers Against Sewage
Starboard UK has joined the Surfers Against Sewage 250 club, supporting their excellent efforts campaigning for cleaner seas. Starboard share SAS's dedication to addressing environmental issues affecting water users, particularly plastic pollution.
Sian Sykes and Cal Major are UK-based Starboard ambassadors and SAS regional representatives, with passion for both the environment and stand-up paddling. Cal is well known for her anti-plastic crusade, having undertaken the circumnavigation of Skye, plus the entire length of the UK Land's end to John O'Groats.
Sian too has drawn considerable attention to the use of single-use plastics, notably being the first person to circumnavigate Wales by SUP, single-use plastic-free! She has been instrumental in helping Anglesey achieve official plastic-free status and recently helped facilitate a beach clean with none other than the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Both Starboard and SAS are keen to encourage stand up paddlers and all water users to change their habits with regards to use of single-use plastics and address local issues by taking part in the SAS Beach cleans: https://www.sas.org.uk/our-work/beach-cleans Starboard paddles are all now supplied with a trash picker hook so every expedition can do a little good for our seas and waterways too!
