XR Race on top in Poland

It was a successful start to the Raceboard series in Poland for Tushingham.  At the first Raceboard event on the Polish calendar, the President of Sopot City Cup, experienced racer Pawel Frydrychowicz took victory using the XR Race 8.5. It's the oldest regatta in Poland and counts towards the national cup. Pawel sailed a perfect regatta, taking victory in all eight races.

With this success plus numerous victories on the UK circuit and positive feedback from many racers at the recent Raceboard Worlds, the Tushingham XR Race is building a strong reputation on the Raceboard scene. If you're interested in the sail but there isn't a distributor in your country contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Best of luck to Pawel and all XR-Racers for the rest of the season!

Tushingham & Starboard Raceboard WINNERS!

XR Race Starboard PhantomThe first UKWA Cup event was held in Portland Harbour over the Bank Holiday weekend with RS-X, Techno, Formula and Raceboard all taking part. Raceboard saw a strong fleet, consisting of more than thirty sailors, doing battle over three competitive days of racing in a good range of wind conditions.

In the women's fleet the leading two racers were sailing with the new Tusingham XR Race 8.5m. Marie Buchanan's lead over Annette Kent grew with almost every race and she finished the regatta a full thirty points ahead after discards. A superb return to winning ways for Marie after several years away from the raceboard scene.

As for the men, Tushingham's Dave Hackford took a hard-earned victory using the new 9.5m XR Race sail and Starboard Phantom 380.  He clinched victory in the final race (the thirteenth of the weekend!) after a consistent string of top five results including a couple of firsts. It was just enough to edge fellow XR-Race and Phantom 380 rider Rob Kent into second, with the final podium position taken by Tom Naylor (also on the XR-Race), only a very narrow margin behind.

Saturday saw Nik Baker arrive to show the new Equipe raceboard and Tushingham designer Ken Back made an appearance on the Sunday to give an informative presentation with Rob Kent on race sail tuning and setup.

After three hard days of racing there were some particularly tired limbs at the prizegving but the raceboard fleet were treated to a good range of product prizes thanks to Windtek, O'Neill, Tushingham and Starboard. The UKWA put on a brilliant event with exciting racing in all fleets.

Raceboard results:

1. Marie BUCHANAN (Starboard Phantom 380, Tushingham XR Race 8.5m)
2. Annette KENT, (Mistral Equipe, Tushingham XR Race 8.5m)

Men

Bloodworth Success on TK 5.5

TK 5.5 HB Eric Twiname

The 23rd Eric Twiname Championships were held at Rutand Water on 9th & 10th May and were particularly successful for a Tushingham rider. Young racer Henry Bloodworth (HB) took first place in the Techno 5.5  fleet with two firsts and two second places.

HB commented:

"This was only my second competition with the TK rig. I like the high winds and the bigger courses but when it's really windy I'd prefer my Flare freestyle board!"

The event is the pinnacle of the RYA’s Junior racing calendar, with young competitors in over 285 boats and windsurfers pitting their sailing skills against the best young talents from each of six English Zones, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, in a bid to help their Zone or home country team clinch the coveted Eric Twiname Shield at the end of the weekend.

This year HB's result helped the SE Zone to take victory by the closest of margins, ahead of the South region. Full event results here

Note to young racers and parents: The TK 5.5 has continued but has undergone a graphic name change and becomes the XR-Race 5.5, smaller brother (or sister!) to the XR Race Raceboard sails (7.5, 8.5, 9.5m)
